Microsoft Will Even Prohibit Charitable FOSS Fundraising Through the “Microsoft Store”A few weeks ago, Microsoft quietly updated its Microsoft [app] Store Policies, adding new policies (which go into effect next week), that include this text:
all pricing … must … [n]ot attempt to profit from open-source or other software that is otherwise generally available for free [meaning, in price, not freedom].
What an idiocy, OpenSource soft or services is not necessarily free to use, it does not matter if it serves for crowdfunding for charity or because it has costs because it needs an infra structure for its operation. For example Proton VPN is OpenSource, but only freemium with a paid pro version, since server cost money. Will it be banned from the M$ store because of this? Anyway I don’t know anyone who uses Windows and uses the store to get software, where even M$ has the effrontery to charge for Libre Office (€9.50). Edit: They have removed it from the store and replaced it with different others, proprietary soft, with its Office 365 and WPS Office in the first place.
