Ironic that the video wont play on my phone
The problem I have with this kind of thing is: I work on hundreds of different vms and containers and they can’t all be setup like this AND have root and system accounts be setup like this. So you get too used to it one place and forget its not there when trying to troubleshoot. These days i tend to try and keep my shell simple so my skills transfer easily anywhere.
I really hate how the context of this is manipulated by headlines like that. What is ACTUALLY happening is, Oregon motorists might soon be REQUIRED to pump their own gas. Why would anyone WANT to pump their own gas? Full service is more convenient for motorists. It’s the gas stations that don’t want to pay employees that drive this.
‘Gas stations in Oregon’s most populous counties will still be required to employ an attendant and offer full-service fueling with no difference in price.’
This will be loop-holed and you’ll end up having to wait 20 minutes for the one employee, so you end up doing it yourself, and then in a few years they’ll remove the requirement to hire that guy.
Meh.
RIP #RHEL, long live #debian
They are volunteers doing something they want to do, and giving it to you for free. You have 0 say or room to complain. You are completely within your rights to fork lemmy and call it th3raid0r and change the code to have or not have whatever features you desire. That is how FOSS works.
In most cases you can even pull in their changes from their git repo and apply them to your fork to mingle with your own changes (provided they dont diverge too much) and hell, maybe if everyone agrees with your position better, your version will be the one other admins use. You could even team up with some of them to lessen the burden of maintenance.
This project https://github.com/lardbit/nefarious solves this same issue using docker containers
You are also disapproveing at a steady clip 🤣😂 to be fair i didnt put much effort into my application text.
I have this one posted on my office corkboard. Classic.

I run TinyTinyRss in the cloud somewhere, and there are a couple android readers that work ok.
On the other hand, an embedded link viewer has no uBlock and other extensions/privacy settings as my browser does. Id rather just open youtube in forefox.
I’ve been installing Librewolf on all my mint machines. Resolves all the mint defaults bs and the mozilla defaults bs.
There is a thread on HN about this (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=38114512) which includes a link for https://ghostfol.io which I have not tried, but it is open source / self hostable.
