  • I would add that this is the same corporate mentally that has spawned the whole subscription model. It’s no longer good enough to just sell a product, but now you have to bake into that product features that can only be accessed with an additional subscription.

The auto industry has embraced this mentality in their new vehicles, but it applies to a lot of consumer products. I used to be able to access my sprinkler system away from the house with their app. Now they are requiring a subscription if I want to do that. The app only works if I’m on the LAN. Of course I’m not paying, I’ll already paid for it based on the service being available.

  • Been using Mint for the past 4 years. Got my son his first phone this year and got him a Mint plan too which I manage through my account. We both have 5GB month plans which costs $360 a year for both. I work from home so don’t need anymore data than that. I barely use 2GB per month. When he’s in school all day, he doesn’t use his phone much either, so it works out , but I’m sure he could use more than 5GB if he had it.

Mint has been pretty solid. No major issues either with setting up or daily usage. I’m totally satisfied. I was paying $100 a month just for myself prior to moving to Mint from Verizon. I’ve saved thousands since.

This guy is right. Reddit doesn’t really care about a 2 day blackout. They’ve seen similar things before. The lemmings get pissed about something, stomp their feet for a couple of days, then return to their usual habits acting like they’ve accomplished something. Unless people leave and delete their accounts en mass, or large subs go private permanently, these little protests won’t do anything.

  • Hate shit like this. Just this morning I went to join a Discord server for motorsports. Don’t really use Discord too much, but wanted to see what was going on. It says my email is verified, but I need to add my phone number. Fine, enter my number, then get the code and when I enter the code, it pops up an error saying that number is already in use so I can’t join.

Well no shit it’s in use. It’s in use by me. All Google searches say to delete the phone number in the settings, but there is no phone number in my settings. Apparently this is a common issue in Discord, but they refuse to acknowledge it. WTF is wrong with these companies. Why piss off your own customers?
