I work for a small gaming company (~10 employees) based out of Toronto, and always wanted to contribute more (financially) to open source projects.
There’s 2 key ones that come to mind - Ruffle, an open source ActionScript (Flash) reimplementation (so you can play Flash games in your webbrowser again!), and Godot, an engine that makes creating games as easy as creating 3D models in Blender.
I’ve pitched the idea before, but nothing as concrete or easy as just dropping a link in Slack. The best part about recurring donations is it keeps it on your company’s mind, meaning they’re more likely to donate in the future!
It’s always easier for a company to fork out cash than yourself. Give it a shot! Most Open Source devs who need funding would love it :)
“if your company lets you”
That’s what I do when I’m not working at a start-up ;)
