    -Push the beg button

-Cross the street with the light

-Driver barrels towards crosswalk ignoring person and light while looking at phone

    Richmond policeboth-sides

But seriously, what the fuck is the point of beg buttons and traffic lights if we’re still going to blame the pedestrian for getting hit by a car that isn’t respecting the rules of the road? Fucking carbrained ass society.

What the fuck am I going to do with the sound of a car on a road??? I hear that all the time. All the time. Whether I’m crossing the street or not. I’m inside my house sitting at my computer right now and I can hear the sound of cars on the road. What exactly are you expecting me to do with the information that there is a car traveling down the road?! I know there is! There always is! I don’t need to hear it to know that! That’s why we have STREET LIGHTS and ROAD LAWS which mean that cars are supposed to stop traveling down the road in predictable situations such as WHEN THE LIGHT IS RED or WHEN IM CROSSING THE STREET

    ITS A SIGNALISED CROSSING

HES THE ONE BREAKING LIKE MULTIPLE LAWS

eta: like literally tho how do you even equivocate between literally running a red light and hitting someone, and literally just using an actual pedestrian crossing

    death to America (incl Canada)

Yes like what about deaf people? Or people caring for screaming children that are louder than EVs? Or people crossing the road near any sort of construction?

I no longer cross at zebra crossings if a car is coming even if I have ‘right of way’, given how frequently drivers just blitz through. The other day I spoke to a lady in her 70s who was taking PT to the local shopping centre to do her exercise there, rather than walk around the neighbourhood, because a car clipped her walking frame when she was crossing with the lights and she cracked her skull.

Shit’s fucked. I don’t want to become roadkill. Carbrains have won.

There was a 90 year old who was smashed and killed walking down the road in a town nearby yesterday. I don’t want to be old just so I can become roadkill.

I’ve started doing the opposite. Thankfully I’m fairly tall and easily seen, so I frequently am the one to just walk out in front of cars who aren’t respecting road safety. Not in the middle of the highway, but if right of way is at all dubious, I’ve started claiming pedestrian / cyclist always wins. It’s a battle I’ll become roadkill to fight.

Hell they’ll even swerve around you in the crosswalk rather than stop for 10 seconds.

Comrade bus drivers always stop at the crosswalk for pedestrians though

This is honestly why I tell people commuting to work to get moto gear. Having an impact rated helmet and pads, padded hard knuckles, and your countries self defense option of choice tucked in your jacket is the only real insurance policy for murderously negligent cagers. Bike helmets aren’t suitable for road riding. Although I don’t know if CE back armor would help a man who got hit hard enough to “[tear] his body apart”. Although I suspect thats more describing the severe road rash that requires expensive moto gear to prevent.

Unseriously: I as a patriotic American keep a 200. caliber AT hand mortar on me for all my bike rides for self defense reasons.

make sure you’re wearing plate armor underneath the bike gear to protect from mass shootings too

Do you have any experience in the moto world? There at mesh garments, ie summer gear, that have CE rated padding; primarily, jackets, gloves, and boots. The butt and knee padding in some moto pants might even make your ride more comfortable.

I’m not suggesting people swap their lycras for leather. Bicycle gear as a category is not roadworthy. There is suitable gear, especially in the moto gear category, that is. Especially for ebikers.

Pedestrians should carry antimateriel rifles and destroy cars as they approach until all lanes are blocked in order to safely cross

pedestrians should have powered armor equipped with flare/chaff/smoke launchers, deployable explosive and recon drones, hull mounted active protection system, ERA blocks, thermal and infrared optical systems, and a novel magazine fed variant of the Carl G. 84mm recoilless rifle as a primary armament. with a high capacity machine gun/automatic rifle using some kind of AP ammo mounted to the offhand arm. then it might be almost safe to cross the street lol.

they won’t even paint a crosswalk for a nearby mosque where i live, they have a cop sit on the side of the road waiting for someone to get hit. no one directing traffic or holding a sign or anything. at least 1 or 2 people have already died because of this that i’ve heard of.
