I am interested in people’s view on the value of “bundled” federated services offerings. I have seen that most new fediverse offerings, like Lemmy or Mastodon, usually start with the first instance being the most popular, and then a scattering of self hosted instances.

At the same time I have run across a couple of projects that offer a range of services to members like email, chat and VPN. Specifically these two:

https://disroot.org/en https://riseup.net/

I was wondering if people thought there was a space for something similar in the fediverse. An organization that offers a range of fedi applications: mastodon, lemmy, etc… to members of its community.

Yes, I really like the idea. Think there may be a need for that, especially if it can be provided in a way where a single identity suffices (single sign-on), if that is possible. As fediverse evolves and apps offer deeper integrations, better interoperability, these bundles can be very attractive comprehensive ‘one-stop shop’ solutions. They may ask for a fee similar to what social.coop does too, in the form of a pay-what-you-want with a minimum threshold, in order to pay for infrastructure and maintenance tasks, etc.

Interesting site. I’m thinking something that would be flatly apolitical. Just a service, use as you please. Most of these looking to have their biases seep into the terms of service

there’s no such thing as an apolitical instance. the concept of a community-owned and -operated not-for-profit social network is a fundamentally anarchist ideal. not to mention the lack of an explicit political statement is itself a political statement.

At our 1st meetup in the SocialHub ActivityPub for Administrations event, an interest was expressed from the netCommons Horizon 2020 project to extend their activities to the Fediverse.

    netCommons

“netCommons is a Horizon2020 research project, which follows a novel transdisciplinary methodology on treating network infrastructure as commons, for resiliency, sustainability, self-determination, and social integration.”

They have some very interesting things on their website, like this Hands-On Guide on Community Networks.

I have invited them to join Fediverse Futures discussion on the SocialHub forum.

I just bumped into https://selfprivacy.org/en/ via this toot:

    • Private email server
    • Bitwarden password manager
    • Jitsi-meet for video conferences, etc
    • VPN with OpenConnect for safe network browsing and creating private networks
    • Delta-chat secure messenger
    • Nextcloud for network file storage and sharing
    • Gitea as source control and storage
    • Pleroma as an entry to Fediverse
