We’re talking about a culture where people learn Marxism in school; where people know what their class interests are, and they know who looks out for them… but that also goes for the capitalists, and they know America is looking out for them, so there’s no shortage of anti-Mao (or anti-Xi, or anti-any-CPC) bleating in supply for the US machine to work with.
