Interesting… I just logged into Lemmy to ask you guys why China has such a high inequality, whether it’s a statistical artifact due to their economy working differently, etc. But I see it’s an issue that they’re actually working to tackle.

For this it’s good to consider the total picture of China having a hard history up until pretty recently, it being an absolutely massive country with a huge population, its focus on a lot of material conditions of people first, lifting 800 million people out of poverty recently and then the need to move forward.

Just looking at it like: ‘China has inequality, therefore it fails’, would be very much too shortsighted. Also, we do not see China as a perfect country but it’s one of the only countries that is succesfully transitioning towards socialism/communism and therefore it has our critical support.

Thanks for the explanation! I feel great admiration towards China and the way they’re pushing forwards without relying on exploitation and imperialism. They may have high inequality indices at the moment, but the US has them much higher, and sadly their government couldn’t care less about it…

Honestly, the nature of inequality of Deng is often misinterpreted and it’s frustrating. Inequality wasn’t some “neobourgeoisie” seizing the assets of others; the economic pie increased for everyone but the development itself was lopsided and uneven. Aside from some controlled finance capital imports from spend-happy Westerners (Mao had tried and failed several times to industrialize because a certain Chiang Kai-shek stole all the fucking gold reserves when he fled to Taiwan) surplus extraction mostly did not exist and Maoists like to criticize China because everyone is not exactly equal, even though everyone is far richer than they were and the CPC is working to fix said problem. I’ll have to read that. I got my numbers from Big Red Book on China which was made by a pro-CPC expat for other westerners to consume. Not sure if he’s a Maoist but he supports the CPC.

Look dude I don’t mean to fedjacket, but you sound like either a young kid who just got into Marxism at best, or a fed spreading total bullshit talking points to discredit China. Sorry but this ultraleft bullshit is so obvious to any well read Marxist. Socialism is a long process that is defined as the transition period between capitalism and communism. In a practical sense, this is when workers take and hold state power and being steering the ship if you will towards the goal of communism.

Beyond that basic background knowledge, anyone talking as big as you are about China should know they refer to their stage of development as “primary stages of socialism”, with the current goal being a moderately prosperous socialist country. In the past 25 years real wages in China have gone up by over 4x. Imagine if in the US the median wage went up fucking 400% in that time. Spoiler, it will never happen outside of hyperinflation.

Good explanation, at least I found it very instructive. But please, try not to be that harsh to people who are just learning the ropes, there’s no point, especially if you think they are children. Getting frustrated at them is understandable, but think of all the good you can do by simply calming down and finding the words to explain Socialism to a few people :)

              • No answer is sufficient because it’s an awful question that was asked in both ignorance and bad faith.

Also socialism is not even the end of surplus value extraction. If your only issue is ending exploitation, and not building the infrastructure to sublate the natural laws of capital, or building the political power to survive in an imperialist world, you reduce yourself to an ideologue shaking your fist at the sky and we already have enough of those. They are dime a dozen.

What exactly do you mean with your name calling? You cannot provoke me, you just demonstrate personal insecurity being covered up by fake arrogance. Yes, I’m caucasion and live in the western hemisphere, and yes I have leanings towards communism. My question stands, though.
