Can’t the judge find him in contempt for this? I can’t think of a better reason for contempt than trying to influence the investigations by withholding funding.

Waiting 2 years to prosecute this dipshit was political. They should have brought charges sooner. Instead, they drag their feet into election year, making it appear intentional.

Our government is so fucking incompetent. Dude admits to a crime openly and they still manage to fuck it up.

You had the Justice Department saying “look he committed crimes, but we can’t arrest him because he’s president - so either impeach him or vote him out, then we’ll do something.” So why the fuck did they do anything day 1 of him not being president? Dragging their feet made it a bad look. An immediate arrest would have made it look a thousand times better.

Some people deserve it. Of course if it were legal, many who didn’t would get it.

Though it being illegal doesn’t stop the cops from doing it. Just look up all the news about people showing up at the ER instead of booking when arrested, the literal torture warehouse uncovered recently, and the general fascistic nature of US cops… Not even talking about Guantanamo or the military.

If you want the constitution to be adhered to, you already have work to do.

Well yeah, duh. But that doesn’t mean we stop trying to do better. People are saying “do the right thing”, and you’re saying “people already fucked up though” like it’s some sort of, I don’t know, excuse to not care about doing the right thing this time. Maybe, just maybe, if we can prove even the highest level crooks go to jail, we can shake the idea that “In America that there’s no point in doing anything because it’s already shit.”.

I’m not saying let the fucker free. Lock him up til he dies. Prison rations. Solitary confinement. But if we torture, and excuse it because THIS TIME WE’RE SURE, and “it must be alright because the bad guys also tortured”, then we’ve only made a more torturous union.

Nah, you were saying don’t torture via tap the sign reference. I was simply saying that problem already exists, and it sure as hell isn’t toward cops. It’s from cops.

I was basically pointing out that if you’re against torture, you should really hate these fuckers.

Yes, I’m speaking in the sub-context of explaining what kinds of cruelty already exists. This context stems from the “tap the sign” reference which was used to speak against cruelty towards horrible people who ostensibly actually deserve it.

If you’re against cruelty to people who ostensibly deserve it, cruelty to those who don’t should be a much higher priority. Yes, it is in effect a what-about-ism, but perspective is critical to having solid moral axioms.

I doubt he’ll ever set foot in jail. But I would love it if he fled to Russia. There’d be no more denying his allegiances after that, and we can all move on from him. With any luck he dies by by big Mac long before any of that happens though. Thankfully he’s almost 80, and doesn’t take care of himself, so he won’t last another 10 years, but he has rich ex president doctors, so who knows.

-Constantly brags about deals made with the Russian government -Openly, on television, called for Russia to hack Hilary Clinton’s emails -Praises Putin at the DROP of a hat -the Helsinki summit -openly disparages Zelenskyy and regurgitates Russian state propaganda

If this was the 60s, Trump would be crucified by the GOP. Doesn’t the GOP still hate capital C Communism? Russia is hardly a communist country, but the optics of it are completely antithetical to what conservatism in America has always stood for.

Nahhh old conservatives at least pretended to have values they were protecting while being wannabe despots. They’re getting way, way more brash and open about being fascistic pieces of shit these days, and that is a very worrying development.

They’re no longer fascistic in effect. They’re becoming openly fascist. That is very bad.

I repeat, it was a mistake to treat him seriously as a candidate, his behavior needed to be addressed and someone needed to pull him aside and ask him what the hell he thought he was doing.

Donald Trump in the presidential race needed to be treated not as a proper contender, but as a rampaging bull that had ran onto the track and started goring the jockeys.

“Russia, if you’re listening…” should have been the moment any idea of him as a legitimate candidate was dropped, and he was placed into Federal custody.

In future generations, when the Republican party is remembered in the same way that all fascist groups ultimately are… people will highlight the “aww shucks” response as an indication of the past’s naivety

About 30% of the country appears to be a lost cause. We need to show up and vote against them, because there are more of us than there are of them. This, incidentally, is why GOP voter suppression tactics are so serious and frightening - they’re trying to make it super hard for anyone who doesn’t share their ideology to cast a vote at all. They try to spread their ideology, sure, but at the end of the day, they know there’s a TON of stuff they want that’s incredibly unpopular and regressive. They’re trying to game the system to win in spite of modern demographic and societal shifts.

And yeah: I’m done beating around the bush. If you’re voting for Trump, you’re either racist, a religious fundamentalist, an imbecile, a wealthy psychopath, or some combination of the above.

There will always be regressive, psychotic assholes in any society who try to drag it backwards. It’s everyone else’s job to shame, humiliate, and yes, when required, physically suppress them and their attempts to organize into a political force. They will weaponize the tolerance of society against itself if we tolerate them in any way.

Here’s a longer story (shamelessly stolen from reddit, because fuck Reddit) to the same effect:

(transcribed from a series of tweets) - @iamragesparkle

I was at a shitty crustpunk bar once getting an after-work beer. One of those shitholes where the bartenders clearly hate you. So the bartender and I were ignoring one another when someone sits next to me and he immediately says, “no. get out.”

And the dude next to me says, “hey i’m not doing anything, i’m a paying customer.” and the bartender reaches under the counter for a bat or something and says, “out. now.” and the dude leaves, kind of yelling. And he was dressed in a punk uniform, I noticed

Anyway, I asked what that was about and the bartender was like, “you didn’t see his vest but it was all nazi shit. Iron crosses and stuff. You get to recognize them.”

And i was like, ohok and he continues.

"you have to nip it in the bud immediately. These guys come in and it’s always a nice, polite one. And you serve them because you don’t want to cause a scene. And then they become a regular and after awhile they bring a friend. And that dude is cool too.

And then THEY bring friends and the friends bring friends and they stop being cool and then you realize, oh shit, this is a Nazi bar now. And it’s too late because they’re entrenched and if you try to kick them out, they cause a PROBLEM. So you have to shut them down.

And i was like, ‘oh damn.’ and he said “yeah, you have to ignore their reasonable arguments because their end goal is to be terrible, awful people.”

And then he went back to ignoring me. But I haven’t forgotten that at all.

That’s not a wrench; dear god, these headlines.

Donald Trump demanded they use the opportunity to “defund” Special Counsel Jack Smith and his team.

That’s not how any of this works, lol. This idiocy will be denied like all similar gambits he’s flailed into under the advice of incompetent counsel.

It’s two hours since they hit the iceberg, and they’ve commandeered all available lifeboats. Many are taking on water. Some of them are bailing frantically, some are taking the opportunity to stick their hands up the skirts of women trying to bail water or vomiting over the side, and some are boring more holes or denying they’re in a lifeboat to begin with.

Meanwhile, though they can all see the rescue ship right in front of them, trump is facing the opposite way, demanding they row away from help because he knows better. McCarthy dressed as a woman to board the first lifeboat, but he’s been discovered and is trying desperately to explain why he should be there.

I’ve tortured this metaphor enough, but the ship has sunk and we’re witnessing the cutthroat mess as survivors begin fighting each other for space on the door. It’s sad and frightening in equal measure.

e: I’d love to see this scene as a Garrison-style comic. Seems like a thing AI could do.

Nothing to see here. Nothing to hide. They certainly have all the evidence that Trump is innocent. They’re sure to release it any day now. This only proves what he’s been saying all along.
