Why did they leave out context in this article? I can’t even see any political motivation…

The reform was being worked on years before the Revolution by imperial linguists. The first draft was done in 1904 and it was all but implemented in the early 1917. It was basically optimising orphography by throwing out unnecessary stuff and making the language more phonetic. As bolsheviks sought to rapidly eradicate illiteracy, it was perfect because reformed this way it was, naturally, a bit easier to learn, so they just finalized it’s implementation.

Weirdos… You’d think they would use actual history - great opportunity for propaganda is right there - “filthy commies appropriated imperial work and took the credit”, but no, they gotta screech about awful Reds out to destroy Russian culture or whatever.

Speaking of propaganda, I don’t know how intentional this was, but dividing imperial and revolutionary Russia with an all-pervasive element of culture like language was a really nice move.

Well you know! Values! Like uuuh village priests being the only ones who can read, flogging, hereditary wealthy basking in unthinkable riches and going mad from not knowing what to want even, while the the underclassmen that make their wealth work 12-16 hours a day of back breaking labor, never leave their place of birth and whose only constant is misery.

          Oh wait.

Yes, because baseline liberals hate everything to do with Russia, including the imperial time

The same shit is said all the time about simplified chinese. The problem with language and writing being too complicated was ongoing theme for most of their history, but it really became huge issue after republic was formed and tried to modernise the country. Thus the roots of reform lies in the kuomintang. Yet the communists are all the time being accused of “destroying the culture”. Not to mention thanks to CPC efforts and persistence the reform was successful and allowed unprecedented explosion of culture and education.
