Dude took a quarter of a billion USD in bribes! IIRC the CCP sees corruption as a way for US agents to sneak into Chinese institutions to spy/sabotage.

I wonder how he thought he’d get away with it. China monitors high level state officials very closely.

i think if there is an argument for capital punishment it’s to be used against people like this. the old argument for it being used in the case of murderers and such is that they’re “too dangerous to be left alive.”

i find the likelihood of a corrupt billionaire in a position of power being able to bribe or utilize his connections for escaping or doing more damage to the people from behind bars much much higher than a murderer busting out of maximum security. there is also much less likelihood for reform. these people don’t change because they don’t have to.

there’s just not a good way to ensure he’d remain penniless and in jail for the rest of his life without taking a huge risk.

I think it would be way better to prevent abuse of power in the first place

I’m almost positive they work hard at doing that too. I personally don’t support the death penalty either, but I find it very hard to sympathize with this person.

I think they’re saying that by supposedly decentralizing power, you can prevent abuse of power entirely in the first place.

This is a good example what i dislike about china and why i consider it to be authoritarian.

That’s a common liberal talking point, if you’re not aware, comrade.

Yes, but the PRC is authoritarian and we like this fact because it’s often wielded in favour of proletarian interests. It is a left idealist disagreement if anything and it’s not even anything close to the venom you’ll find in places like r/completeanarchy.

Yes. The fact that this liberal dislikes it shows they’re not in favor of proletarian interests. Besides, it’s not the first time this user has spread some shitty liberal views on China.
