    You’re thinking of the American Indian Federation, not a Confederation of tribes.

    Edit: that’s obviously a sensationalist title (I’m not familiar with sputnik news) and the NY times ran two articles with equally sensationalist titles, but it was an honour chosen to recognize the USSR’s work against the Nazis that did include naming him an honourary war chief.
