Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) | Gadgeteer

There are pro’s and con’s for both proprietary and open source software. It is a question of the right tool for the job. Open source is not necessarily free! I see great opportunities for levelling the playing fields in the South African IT industry, and believe that open source will enable small IT companies in South Africa to provide win-win solutions. Below are some of the key links I track regarding open source software.

My list is separated into 30 separate categories to help find your area of interest whether it is networking, security, messengers, video editing, education, etc. It is also backed up to the Wayback Machine for future reference.

I update this page as and when something new of interest crosses my path so there are usually bi-weekly or monthly updates.

The link for “Open Source Living” seems to be incorrect. I found https://www.opensourceliving.org/ on searching, but I’m not sure if that’s what you’re referring to.

Thanks for pointing that one out, it was one of the very old links but no it actually went to a service that was an archive of the Web’s best Open Source software, applications and references for a zero-cost / top quality digital experience. The image still exists on the Wayback Machine. So removed it for now.

Also, the link for GNU Solfege is incorrect. It should be: https://www.gnu.org/software/solfege/
