I keep getting told by family that haircuts are important to prevent sores.
No, as long as you take care of your hair, you’re fine.
I get a haircut maybe once a year and for the rest of the year I let it grow. I usually continue until the hair starts reaching my shoulders and then I go and get a shorter haircut.
I have never heard someone say that haircuts prevent sores.
Oh, good.
I have literally not had a haircut in over four years. I am growing a very long braid (already reaches past my hip). Every day I unbraid it and wash it. One day I will use shampoo and conditioner, the next day just water. Then I brush it and rebraid it.
In four years I have not had any sores and honestly have never heard of that. Just take care of your hair (and scalp) and you should be fine, haircuts are not necessary (though you may want to trim split/dead ends to keep yourself from having a halo of flyaways and reduce how much hair gets damaged)
Edit to add: the frequency at which you use products to wash your hair (and what products are best for you) depends on what type of hair you have, but just…I guess whatever works so that you don’t feel gross. Some people only shampoo once weekly, some do it daily.
I hate my family then, because they kept forcing me, until my adult age, to get a haircut because “it would look nice.”
I didn’t really care that much about brushing and washing my hair; because it felt like too much work (thanks capitalism); and I still thought that appearance didn’t matter.
I don’t think so. Proper washing and brushing is enough to keep from getting sores.
Also if you’re young, you like having long hair, you have fine hair and MPB runs in your family, be careful with cutting hair too short. I had absolutely luscious locks but age 19, after a bad haircut, receding hairline and thinning peak went absolutely hogwild and destroyed my hair. Also try to refrain from overwashing but you should pretty much always feel “clean enough”. Been using rogaine and finasteride for years trying to reclaim what was lost.
i feel like if you’re asking this question you’re either 13 or 30 lmao
take care of yourself dude. ofc you don’t need haircuts as half of the population culturally has very long hair
I was growing longer hair as a kid cuz I liked it, my asshole uncle walked in one day, said I looked like a girl, walked over without another word and cut off the long hair. Fuck family that says stupid shit about hair. Now my hair is long and I make sure it is extra long when I travel home and may see some of my more socially conservative family.
Do whatever you want, hair will not give you sores or do anything bad to you if you keep it clean. But do be ready for more hair cleaning in the shower, it definitely takes more time.
I stopped getting haircuts when the pandemic started then I realized I love long hair.
What they might mean is serious dandruff… If they mean it in good faith at all.
I have episodes of subcutanious dermatitis that can get extremely sore like around my scalp and nose and hairline if I take too long to moisturize or clean my face with face wash. It’s a tricky balance because if I over moisturize or over clean, I can go back to the same problem.
I find anti dandruff shampoo is a rather effective face wash for myself.
However. That is unrelated to my hair length. Short hair for me makes it easier to get to the scalp. Otherwise, it isn’t an issue.
Sores? Wtf? I’m confused. What’s their logic?
Head sores I think. I probably misheard them.
I’ve never even heard of that. You don’t get sores from not cutting your hair… I hope I’m not out of line by saying that your family sounds controlling. It sounds like the kind of lie you might tell a child to get them to do what you need them to do.
If you want to grow your hair out, you should!
I cut it when it passess the shoulder lenght, hairstyle is the same as John Wick’s.
I like to keep my hair buzzed.
