I hopped on Reddit for the first time in weeks to look for some reading recommendations. The site is worse than I imagined. Rampant racism (especially sinophobia), liberal brain rot, and just shitty content all around. I’m going to just delete my account there.
I need to look more into those front-end sites to access what good information is on Reddit, Twitter, etc.
everyone I know calls me a hater because I criticize their media. There is a reason, after you see how terrible neoliberalism is, all its lies and fake platitudes, of course I’m going to hate anything to do with it.
I need to get better with this privacy stuff. In the process of moving everything away from google and deleting my account. I’ll probably make a very private account for the rare occasion I need to use google products…but trying to limit that as much as possible.
I recommend just having as few accounts as possible, and typically only staying logged in while it’s necessary (i.e. by deleting cookies when you’re done), and using Tor in situations where it’s important to hide your identity. (There’s a lot more to think about, but it’s a good start)
For YouTube, there’s Invidious (example) and Piped (example). For Twitter, there’s Nitter (example). There’s a list of these services here

I have a similar experience. It’s really eye opening. Unfortunately once you realize how terrible most media is, you can’t go back.

For R*ddit, there’s Teddit (e.g. teddit.net) and Libreddit (e.g. libredd.it)

It’s only gotten worse. I always knew reddit was racist but it’s gotten so much worse, especially among “woke” liberals
