    I don’t see a third party board being a rival to the RPI in all domains yet. I think it’s gonna be hard to beat the RPi regarding user support and HATs / hardware built for it. Altough, if the board happen to be 100% compatible, that could be nice, but then it’s just a RPI…

      I’d be extremely happy with a RISC-V board that’s a straight up Raspberry Pi clone, something RISC-V and affordable is a win for open source ISAs. Even more happy if the processor design itself is open source (I don’t know if the chip mentioned in the article will be though).

        RISC-V is only expensive because there aren’t a lot of people making them and because it’s still not mature so you’re paying for R&D costs, more so than ARM. With time and development this will almost certainly change.
