All over the world, wherever there are capitalists, freedom of the press means freedom to buy up newspapers, to buy writers, to bribe, buy and fake “public opinion” for the benefit of the bourgeoisie.

That’s one way in which American liberals justify or enable imperialism.

Many of them recognize how evil American foreign policy and hegemony is, but then they go, “But what about muh Roosia or China?!? They would be worse imperialists than the U.S.!”, which is complete bullshit just going off the fact that Russia and China don’t even want global hegemony in the first place.

As a Yank, I can safely say we are no longer alone in that attitude as our greatest export seems to be that exact dumb personality. Sorry.

The idea that the US has “free press” when nearly all mediums of information sharing are literally owned by private, singular individuals is nuts. Americans trying to argue for the sanctity of public, free speech while simultaneously arguing all modes of public speech and information sharing should be owned by private individuals is hilarious. This hilarity comes full circle when they admit “it’s a private company they don’t have to abide by free speech”. Precisely, that is the whole point, there is no free speech, you sold it to the highest bidder.

Add to this, that this guy brings up Alex Jones, a character quite similar to Zhang Zhan but then concludes that treatment in the US is somehow better because… What, the US is just magically free’er? By his standards, Jones should NOT be prosecuted, because it’s his right to harass people and spout ridiculous and harmful rhetoric. He should be arguing how evil, autocratic, and anti speech America is for prosecuting such a man. But of course, America good, china bad, that’s really all it comes down to. These people are incredibly shallow, even when they try to present deeper than they actually are.
