Ninjutsu OS, a new software tool that heavily modifies Windows 10 with a huge number of tweaks, mods and extra tools, has been hit with a DMCA complaint by Microsoft. According to the copyright notice, the customizing, tweaking and disabling of Windows 10 features, even when that improves privacy, amounts to a violation of Microsoft’s software license: https://torrentfreak.com/removing-annoying-windows-10-features-is-a-dmca-violation-microsoft-says-200611/
That seems like bullshit. The modification of Windows 10 and therefore the potential license violation would have to be carried out by each individual user. The availability of a tool to ease that is itself not a violation, especially considering that the author could have theoretically created it without ever entering into the License Agreement of Windows. You can’t claim a violation of a contract without even showing the existence of said contract.
Obviously, though, GitHub will not fight a legal inquiry by their owner and just abuse their right to kick a user out.
