First they force everyone on a microshit account, then ban you from your own server for drinking a beer…

For many it’s a way to build whatever you like without the resource limitations of the real world, but, I think where it tends to truly show its value is when people play together and start to play roles. The social element tends to get people very attached to the game. Plus in terms of advertising, when early Youtube that just wanted to maximize watch time, its algorithm found Minecraft videos to be so successful that the engineers of it at the time had to manually hobble Minecraft videos to make their platform more appealing to the average person, instead of trying out Youtube and just finding Minecraft videos.

The thing with minecraft in particular is that people are having fun with it in very different ways. Basically people are using the same software to play different games.

I don’t play many videogames anymore, but I’ve grown fond of Minetest, an open-source engine for running games like Minecraft. Being FLOSS, it’s a little different and operates mostly using a plugin architecture but you can install different games to run on the engine, such as “Mineclone” which essentially gives you a Minecraft basic experience.

I can’t believe the company actually want to police player’s own hosted servers that’s batshit crazy. I still think it’s more plausible that there will be an option for the admins to disallow reports, if not that would be insane. Although we can trust the community to find a hack to make a server unreachable by microsoft
