It’s now more difficult to see newer posts, with posts weeks old being on top when they receive even a single comment. That’s not really optimal. However, that might be due to the fact that there aren’t too many users right now, so even the smallest activity in the comment section will result in the post getting to the very top, so with more users that might not be an issue.
But anyway, maybe the criteria should be perhaps more than one comment, so that a single person just going through all posts on a particular ?sublemmy? and making a single comment cause all those posts to appear on top of everyone’s feed. But if there are more than one comment from more than one person then it’s probably a good idea to promote that post…
The nice side effect is that there’s now a lot more lively discussion under many posts, because it’s now much easier to see posts with active discussion and participate further. I mean, this is the first time there have been posts with 20+ comments. Have you considered maybe making this a separate sorting method (just as an experiment), which people who would want to participate in discussion would specifically use?
Right now we only have three sorting algorithms (hot, new, best), so I’m all for adding more options. The tricky part will be explaning those properly (like a description on the frontend), and picking a good default.
The new sort is still there, and you can also change your setting for that to be default. I also limited the hot ranking to not bump posts older than a month, but that can be tweaked.
I do like this a lot better so far, just cause now instead of a lot of dead posts, there’re more comments.

As I mentioned, it would be really cool to have this as one of the sorting methods. I don’t quite see why that would be difficult to explain…
By best do you mean top? I don’t see a “best” tab.
I guess, my browser is in Spanish so I dont know what the English version says exactly.

I still recommend having separate sorting options for “hot” and “active”.
