I want to socialize but I don’t like or can keep up with average Mormon’s conversations.
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer’s head. There’s also Rick’s nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they’re not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick & Morty truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rick’s existential catchphrase “Wubba Lubba Dub Dub,”
According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way a bee should be able to fly. Its wings are too small to get its fat little body off the ground. The bee, of course, flies anyway because bees don’t care what humans think is impossible.
SHOW MEEE THE SHMOKING GUUNNN

Depends on what you mean by “clever”. Some people are incredibly knowledgeable about some subjects while being completely ignorant about others. Many otherwise very “clever” people are apparently unable to consider that their political views may be based almost entirely on propaganda. Most people are probably “clever” in different ways
Dah, the number of smart people I know with stupid ass politics is like…90% of all smart people I know
Yeah correct.
Mainly because it is weird to walk up to someone and ask wether they are smart, and even if they reply you can’t trust someone’s personal judgement about themselves.
A good place to look for like-minded people that you can discuss intellectual subjects with are reading circles. They’re also a great way to read more theory and understand it.
Book clubs got a bunch of liberals.
I think smart people will be more objective about themselves. When you are smart you know there is tons of stuff you don’t know but you also have to acknowledge you do know some of it
Ideally yes but then there are people who vastly inflate their admittedly decent faculties and then people who are very insecure and sell themselves short in between whatever number of people can accurately gauge themselves
Aren’t mormons educated from a young age to mostly have happy conversations. I’m sure if you were talking about theology with some of them they’d be more engaging. But to be fair, I wouldn’t want to talk about theology with mormons.
Not even for the curiosity, the novelty? Me and my girlfriend accidentally ate at a cult restaurant on Valentine’s Day (Yellow Deli of the 12 Nations cult) and I LOVED talking to the waiter who was VERY far gone, I basically gave him coy winks and vague dogwhistles to suggest I too was a Christofascist and he gushed, it was fascinating. I’ve always wanted to talk to a psychopath, too. And killers, billionaires, ghouls. We have a running joke, me and my friend, about a weepy, shivering Donald Trump knocking on your day late at night and asking if he could crash on your couch.
Sometimes, old heads will just randomly spark up conversations with me on the bus/ on the train. I remember one time, some dude said his son won against some famous Boxer? Basketball player? (Can’t remember) and how Disney Land was almost built in the Bay area.
I don’t know if they’re making it up/ they have mental issues, but you can tell it makes them happy to have someone listen. Though my examples are a bit more wholesome than the cristofascists guys.
I’m not at a point in my life where I could have a productive conversation about theology with a Mormon yet.
.
As an ex-Mormon, I’ll never be at a point in my life where I could discuss theology with a Mormon without absolutely losing my mind lol.
In my experience it really boils down a lot to luck. But I would definitely avoid certain areas. Where are you running into so many Mormons? Utah (don’t have to answer)? If so my condolences. Maybe try switching up where you go to to try and get a different batch of types of people? I definitely would have no joy trying to socialize with 99% of Southern Baptists where I live. I know the towns I go in pretty well so I know which places are more insufferable than the others. Trial and error friend.
