I’ve posted around my local facebook groups for carpooling options/ride sharing/ride sharing/renting.
Combined with the immense cost of paying some one submarket rates (less than taxi/uber) to bring me to the job and back, i’d only be taking home slightly more than minimum wage.
Can I theoretically buy a car for like 3 months then like sell it at not too much of a loss?
I’m in a bad state right now financially and don’t have another job lined up. This seasonal job will hopefully help me get a better physical labor job like becoming a carpenter or like plumber.
My boss and a few other (capitalists) people tell me that buying a car is a good investment and is like guaranteed to increase income… I guess if I did manage to become like an carpenter or whatever, then i’d need a car to bring all my tool stuff around town?
Consider a cheap car only if you need the cargo. Something easy and cookie cutter such as a honda civic. Parts and repair are cheap on those cars, especially the 4 cylinder engine ones.
Something from A - b with little to no cargo space, cheaper option? Probably go for an automatic motorcycle, the scooter kind has some alright space, gas is super cheap when riding them. Insurance is also cost effective compared to cars.
What about public? Sometimes your local city or county will have public trasportation services. See what runs and the times that run. If you taking uber/taxi then im assuming public transport is also an option. You are trading time for cost on this option as there are wait times for the bus and such you take.
No public transport but the job is somewhat close by? If the route is reasonabley close, try gas/electric powered bike. Hell even an electric scooter. But be mindful of your road conditions. This usually plays into the type of one to buy. Try going over potholes or bad roads with thin tires and no decent suspension. It sucks. Also is public safetey a concern when using at your location or near the job? If yes then probably sticking to the above options might be your best bet.

Buying a car and selling it 3 months later is a financial hit . you need to pay for title transfers, taxes and any other misc an owner might have not disclosed to you before you bought it if you bought privatley. Used and new dealerships also overcharge. Cars are too expensive right now but depending on your location, your mileage may vary.

Order an uber and when the driver shows up offer them cash to drive you instead of bothering with the app. After you get there ask for their number and see if they’ll give you rides for cash on a regular basis.
Or just get a car because living in the boonies without one sucks.

Lmao with what capital/resources? There’s a pretty high chance most of what they make driving for uber goes to covering their car payment/maintenance.

Op says he lives in a rural area so I doubt they’re going to be pulling any ‘taxi stings’ as disgusting as that sounds. However its yet another good reason to never go to LA and definitely do not live there.
