They do it by forcing DNS server operators to remove certain entries. You can get around it by selecting a non-censoring or non-EU based DNS provider or running your own resolver.

I remember German libs jumping with joy back in late 2021 when Germany blocked all remaining “evil misinformation spreading Russian state media.”

In looking into this again I found a supposedly serious legal breakdown that literally says that in the intro paragraph.

To address legitimate questions of double standards that will come up in the wake of the inevitable whataboutism, it should be stressed that the Union’s measures differ decisively from any authoritarian censorship by virtue of the Union’s character as a community of law.

The case for blocking Russian media is made on the basis that it is “propaganda for war,” yet one cannot seriously argue that what western media is doing isn’t propaganda for war.

Well you see, they are the Good Guys, so they can’t do propaganda. That is only for authoritarian dictatorships, not enlightened democracies like civilized European countries. Otherwise, their totally free media would call them out on it.

So…their argument is literally just “it’s ok when we do it?” not even trying anymore. Though I guess they don’t have to.

EU blocks Russian media. Meanwhile the European Court of Human Rights punishes Russia for blocking Russian content.

Does anyone know if Sputnik News has an RSS feed? I tried looking before but couldn’t find it for my news reader.

Why not? They are actually a decent news source and they often provide points of view that have been entirely scrubbed from the media in the west.

I think that’s for the better. Sputnik is a fake news russian propaganda outlet like russia today. It’s the russian equivalent of RFA/RFE/VOA.

And who told you that, the liberal western media? Sputnik and RT may have a pro-Russia bias, just like CGTN has a pro-China bias, but they are actually way more reliable than western mainstream media. The notion that they are on the same level of fake news as RFA is nothing more than imperialist propaganda.

This would just leave you blind to what the masses are being inculcated with. You wouldn’t be able to understand the constantly evolving and latest indoctrination narratives being employed against the working class. It would leave you unempowered to understand and help them.

They wear their biases on their sleeve for sure, but I wouldn’t say they are anything like RFA/RFE. I wouldn’t say to use them (or any singular source honestly) as your sole source of news, but they’re not a bad one to have in the rotation.
