They were all but guaranteed to be thrown out and wasted, so after asking if anyone else wanted any, I took them home in a ziploc for me and my friend.

Apparently didn’t sit right with someone, and walked in today and got scolded/job threatened over it. Over some leftover BBQ chips.

Lack of solidarity and brown nosing management man…sucks. Just feel disappointed and let down.

Edit: Thank you all for the support and sympathetic comments, they helped me feel better than I did. I was pretty shaken at the time, but have calmed significantly since (albeit quite tired mentally and emotionally). I’m going to try and move on from the experience, though I may have an idea who the culprit is due to circumstantial evidence. I’ll just be more cautious around them and the majority of my coworkers from now on. Wish I didn’t have to be, but thems the breaks. Thx again <3

Just take solace in the fact that you will never be anywhere near as much of a monumental loser as this clown who went and reported you to management over potato chips

No friends at work. No trust — just business.

You can even like your coworkers, but do not mistake a coworker for a real friend.

When one of you quits etc then you can start a real friendship, which is nice. But otherwise keep it cordial and don’t get too personal. And don’t gossip for the love of god.

I can’t even imagine what the fuck leads people to do shit like that. I’ve dealt with some serious rat coworkers and it never makes any sense to me. Like something that comes up at some point with almost every coworker I’ve been alone/unsupervised with has been some variation of “hey if i see you do some shit you’re not supposed to do, no i didnt”

but some of these fuckers either snitch over dumb shit or straight up make up bullshit to snitch about. i dont get it. no benefit. crabs in a bucket.

That’s dumb, sorry about that. If you want to smooth over the office politics, you could bring in an identical bag of chips (or equivalent item) and offer to share with coworkers. Obviously maybe cost prohibitive but might make your narc coworker relax a bit.

An antisocial ghoul that would report a ziploc of chips stolen would probably see that kindness as some kind of aggressive gesture, anyone who would do such a thing is living in a different social reality.

Things like this make me feel bummed out in a very similar way. Not mad at your employer for caring about such petty shit, you already expected that from these hogs. It’s just a deep disappointment that your coworker would stoop so low, like come on do better, don’t sell your humanity over some chips

when I worked at a warehouse there was a guy who ratted on another coworker for stealing from a vending machine and got him fired. the guy who got fired was kind of a piece of shit for other reasons but still, wtf

anyway the rat later got punched in the face by a different coworker who I was cool with and they both got fired

    so fucking stupid

when i was a manager i let everyone in my dept take what they want as long as they deleted it from the inventory database first or it already was

and like, not be blatant about it. don’t get caught by store manager. that was it

What fucking inhuman people would care about such a thing. Few things make me feel like burning it all down than this sort of behavior, like when stores throw out day-old bread and lock the dumpster, fire people for taking home wasted food, it’s despicable. It’s a reflection of their hatred for people and society.
