Hard to not love AMLO. Who else would respond to US-criticism during a press conference by playing the collateral murder video.

I have some lib (nice but a kinda clueless) friend who’s convinced AMLO’s a fascist because some Airbnb owner told her so. But she is excited about Claudia Sheingaum… I never know how to address the layers of confusion when she brings it up lol

Racism in Mexico is blatant if you learn where to find it. The trend I’m observing with Claudia Sheinbaum is that people in a good position in life expect her to fix all that ignorant of poor origin (this is AMLO) messed up. Claudia, after all, was raised well into the middle class and she has this not so Mexican lineage.

Of course the opposition plays with the idea that Claudia isn’t even Mexican, but that’s just not true and backfired. In sum, the middle class is torn around Sheinbaum, but they usually don’t like AMLO.

Good points! When you’re a communist you have to learn all of history and every nation’s politics while libs can just repeat this garbage. She’s a very nice and good friend, but she just believes what she is told too easily. Somehow she got in her head that AMLO is Mexico’s Trump because some middle class women from Mexico City told her so… And it’s been a frustrating to undo that damage after it’s dug in. But we’ve got to study and know our shit to combat this nonsense. I’m mostly venting lol.

If ye looked at AMLO and then Sheinbaum’s faces, they look pretty light, as light as Lula’s face…

De’il, this is not just mere racism… this is classicism…

Hence, the middle class’s view as such

(btw, there is a middle class; I’ve heard only of labor aristocrats, non-capitalist professional/managerial classes, and small-to-medium capitalists of land and business establishment?)

You won’t find as many afrodescendants in Mexico as in Brazil. In Mexico, the skin color of Lula is already dark enough to be discriminated by middle and higher classes. Also, the classicism is often fused with this kind of microracisms of skin and eye color. Hair color, texture and formation are also taken into account to discriminate people.

I’ve thought about it with her, and I actually think it’s just she’s waaay too credulous. Someone she got close to told her that AMLO is like Trump, bam, magic words spoken for a lib. She doesn’t know enough about it, in any way, to actually know why she thinks this. She just does because someone told her so.

NPR ran a story yesterday saying that AMLO is dangerous and is moving the country towards dictatorship 🙄
