Some family evacuations, some orphans, some just lost. Some of the latter were returned to Ukraine (double digits, as far as I can tell) the rest got assigned guardians after that free vacation in GULAG Artek.
As for the numbers, they’re about as wild as you should expect these days. I’ve seen anything from 100k to 700k in European media. 50-60k, says the UN. Ukraine officially said (last spring is latest I was able to find) 16k.
