I have been trying to take my digital privacy more seriously as of late, but I find myself falling into a cycle of all-or-nothing. I will do a little bit to improve my privacy and then will suddenly feel like I need to go full-on down the rabbit hole. This leads to burnout, and then I’ll convince myself that it’s all futile and I should just use what’s most convenient.

How do you all find a balance that works for you? Or do you just change things constantly?

I tend to have tiers to things, some things stay with me, some are an indifferent as to if anyone sees, very few are actively promoted as public things. There’s also the notion that anything written that leaves your local system is no longer your’s to control so consider the future when posting. Beyond that, I acknowledge that I will never be able to fully squash the marketing/data-aggregation machine that is the internet but if I can muddy the picture that’s good enough. Self hosting as many services as possible helps give a level of assurance because I know exactly where my data resides.
