I haven’t seen this response in this thread so I suppose I’ll pass it along:

Apparently, back in ye olde days, a subreddit owner could make anyone mod without their permission, and there’s no evidence that u/spez actually did any moderation.

Plenty of reasons not to like u/spez, and apparently he did advocate against shutting jailbait down, but him being a mod is not super legit.

Isn’t there enough to criticize about spez without attacking his appearance? I know plenty of people who look similar to him, most of them aren’t pedophiles.

Yea, I’m not a pedophile just because I look like that. I mean, I am a pedophile, but NOT because I look like that!

(For legal reasons, this is a joke.)

This fits my idea of his personality so well that it isn’t even humorous to learn about

Communities devoted to explicit material saw rising popularity, and r/jailbait, which featured provocative shots of underage teenagers, became the chosen “subreddit of the year” in the “Best of reddit” user poll in 2008, and at one point, making “jailbait” the second most common search term for the site.

          From banned subreddit section.

Well, teeeeeechnically not, as there was no sexual interaction and no full nudity.

However, if someone is explaining how they’re technically not comitting a felony, they should probably stop.

Borderline, not that it makes it any better.

It was supposed to be borderline, ie 18+ models who just looked like they were underage. However there were lots of underage girls posted on there, and indeed the word literally means “a tempting but illegally underage girl” - they’re bait, and if you try to do anything with them you’ll go to jail.

Jailbait is a term usually applied to teen girls under the age of consent that the user of the term finds sexually attractive.

They are so desirable sexually that you would persue sexual relations with them regardless of the legal penalties that might be involved.

So, in classic blaming the victim terms, these girls are “baiting” you to wind up in jail, as if you are some zombified, helpless, spellbound victim that must satisfy your desire.
