We’ve approved I don’t know how many new comrades here since the announcement that Reddit will kill its API access.

If you don’t know where to start posting on lemmygrad, this is a good thread to start in! You can also ask questions you have about federation or our instance.

Welcome!

The current lore is:

We are all feds on lemmygrad, but you get to choose your agency.

    Greetings!

I found out about Lemmy and Lemmygrad today in a Reddit post about the new API changes and came here to talk about left politics, share material and have fun. I have a lot of experience with digital preservation, cats are my favorite animals and I am allergic to liberalism.

Hello, I’ve been here for a little bit but anyways, I gained a small following by China- and DPRK-posting on Tiktok, I keep getting banned there so I’m focusing more on Substack and Youtube. I mostly break down western propaganda about AES countries. Hopefully people here enjoy my content, I’m trying not to spam or anything.

We had 385k views on a video for TikTok, but after that our reach got severely reduced, probably because we didn’t post enough or didn’t post in the right format. You can see our profile here: https://www.tiktok.com/@prolewiki

TikTok is a very insular platform, they barely leave it because it has everything they want on it. What we found from our usage of TikTok is that on 385k views, you had maybe 10 of them check out the website. Compared to Twitter where on 100k views, we can get 100-200 people checking out the website on threads (with a call to action).

There’s probably something we can work out, I’ll have to think about it and get back to you if that sounds good.

Yep, same here, I’ve got several videos in the hundreds of thousands of views, but that doesn’t translate to anything off platform. Tiktok is relatively easy to grow on but unless you get a massive following it will stay almost completely self-contained. It’s not conducive to the in-depth content I like to make, since videos over 3 minutes long don’t get any views.

I’m about to start making a series of videos doing in-depth debunks of the most common DPRK myths, like Otto Warmbier, the ‘3 generations of punishment’, etc.

There’s probably something we can work out, I’ll have to think about it and get back to you if that sounds good.

            Sure, let me know.

Hello, I’m a Texan ML and I’ve heard about lemmy for a long time now, but didn’t know there was an entire instance dedicated to communism, so I’m here now. Just as a lot of others have said, I was motivated to really jump because of reddit’s new nonsense and I’m happy to engage in the discourse :).

Hi everyone, late to this thread. I’ve joined in order to interact more in ML spaces and hopefully sharpen my usage of theory in daily life. This place served an integral role in radicalizing me and I’m thankful for that.

I’ve first discovered Lemmygrad during the first days of the Ukraine debacle, and continued to visit it and began asking questions, then became a full ML after reading theory.

Happy to have you along with us for the ride! Lemmygrad was also very integral in breaking the last vestiges of my old liberal viewpoints and radicalizing me.

Any particular piece of theory your favorite so far?

Well, at the moment I’m trying to apply Dialectical Materialism in my daily life, so works such as Stalin’s Dialectical and Historical materialism have been useful. Anarchism or Socialism has been also a pleasant read, I think it helps clear up the willing misinterpretations of Marxism anarchists do.

Though regarding conciseness, I like Mao’s “Combat Liberalism”. Currently I’m reading Lenin and then I plan to read more Marx, perhaps economics.

You shouldn’t delve into Das Kapital if these are your first years as an ML. Wait to Year 5.

So let’s say, if you downvote a lib from beehaw that’s commented on lemmy.ml, if it had 6 upvotes before, I think the users of lemmy.ml and any other instance that doesnt block us will see a score of 5 (6 upvotes 1 downvote), but for anyone viewing through beehaw or a different instance that blocks us; will still see a score of 6 with no downvotes

As a famous critic of political economy, I’ve been here a while but inactive. Just jumped back in because I heard there was a mass of insufferable liberals spouting ignorance in the neighborhood due to federation and a small Reddit exodus. Glad to see how this space has developed.

I’m what you might call a communist, if you’ve heard the term before.

Hi! I’m Jakob, and I’m a trans guy living in a very very red (not the good kind) state with my wife. We are both basically MLs (though I need to read more theory :c ). I sneeze when I’m full, I love cats but my wife is allergic so we don’t have any, I listen to a lot of music so I would love to talk about that sometime, and I constantly think about social justice. Every billionaire is bad. Also, you can’t kill me in a way that matters :)

Hey y’all, I’m new arround Lemmy, migrating from reddit as many of the new users. I’m a brazilian programer, strugling to finish my cs graduation project while working 8h a day and dealing with an (undiagnosed) adhd and I thought “What could be better to my productivity than trying out a new social network ?” and here I am :)

I’m trying to create an algorithm that generates racing lines for randomly generated race tracks. I once tried to make a racing game and had no idea how to make the AI follow a nice path around the track, so I came up with the idea of a project that generates said path. What I’m doing, basically, is assuming the fastest path around a corner is the biggest radius semi circle and trying to spawn these circles in every corner, than I connect them with straight lines

Hi hi y’all, South American comrade here. Been a fed leftist since my early teens, but started actually understanding marxism/communism around my early 20s and got ever more radicalized since then. IRL I work in tech, am a parent and care for a few cats together with my partner.

I go by Marxine, Marxi or similar 'cause it’s a pseudonym I used for my paintings (in a time long gone), it sounds cute and stuck since then. I don’t really care which pronouns (among the most common ones) are used for me.

I’ll be somewhat active, and try to get more people to join the fediverse in general, we deserve a better internet after so much bullshit we put up with since the early 2000s. My only disappointment so far is not finding a Genshin community at the moment, but I think it’ll happen eventually.

Hello ;) I think I’m another one that’s here because of Reddit’s new policies. I had never heard about lemmy until a few days ago. I am from south america (Brazil) and I consider myself a Maoist. Nice to meet you all!

Have a general resentment towards reddit > read about alternatives to reddit as a result of the API controversy > Lemmy gets brought up because it’s private and decentralized > libs in comments: “Nooo it’s full of communists!!!”(gee I wonder why) “Not hating CPC = basically fascism!! I don’t care that I can make my own instances, ‘supporting’ communists who for some weird reason keep building good software is icky” > me: sounds based

Yo. Texan here. *FBI agent & communist. Recovering labor organizer. The salting i did damn near killed me. Corporate investment fund restaurants are fucking brutal, and all my coworkers were libs. It was fun until we started losing, and my anarchist comrades started losing the plot. Until i recover financially and emotionally, i’m just here to vibe. I really am a communist, so just existing with our perspective feels like a challenge some days. Send virtual hugs 🫂

*Oh yea, and reddit. I’m migrating cuz of the bullshit too. Thx for havin me

    Hello comrades!

I’ve actually been lurking here since the GZD quarantine, but thought I’d take this opportunity to finally create an account. Never really been much of a commenter, but I want to participate in the discourse to become a better Marxist. I read a lot but often have a hard time articulating myself in a conversation so want to improve that.

Looking forward to interacting with you all on here!
