    Care to elaborate? Seems like a sensible change unless you’re in the business of selling dislikes.

      Without dislikes you don’t know if people just didn’t like the video or if it was unsuccessful because of the algorithm. Views or likes alone aren’t a clear answer.

          I meant as a user. Now you have no way to know if people liked a video. It could have many views because of advertising or being shown in a prominent place.

      without knowing how the majority reacted to your video, you cant get a general sense if they liked it or not. also you cant know if youve made a major mistake (such as filming a dead body in the japanese forest.)(emplemon did a great video on why dislikes are inportant, search for it on invidious.)

        Afaik, the dislike count is still there, but private.

        I feel like I’m seeing that effect here? I never noticed that lemmy broke out downvotes but here we are.
