It’s called spam. It’s promoting a site I detest. I can block your instance in my hosts file. I’m okay with blocking. My block list on Mastodon is over 5000 users. That’s the beauty of block lists. I don’t have to see garbage I don’t want to see. You can go on your merry way doing what you want without me in your audience.

It’s not spam, and please be more civil, not everyone can be satisfying the technical needs of others, even if I think it’s a good idea to link to better websites this is not the way of asking for it.

It is spam. It’s an unsolicited ad for a product and a service. I’m not a claque or a sycophant saying what everyone wants me to say. I don’t visit here to click on links trying to sell me something. If the book is so wonderful, tell us why you think it’s so wonderful. It might be that I know more than the author and it’s complete a waste of my time. Evidently, I have to trust the individual and buy the book out of blind faith. Think about it… If Lemmy had the ability to block users, you wouldn’t have to read my opinion and you could joyfully click ads to products you can buy all day.

But in other ways than begging in a pissed way for a user blocking function like an extremistic preacher directly under the link, because someone posted a link to Amazon or another closed platform. There is also a discussion about such a topic at https://lemmy.ml/post/72065
