How good is the experience of running postmarketOS the regular Pine64 SOPINE module with the carrier board and the official touchscreen attachment? It has the same processor as the PinePhone, so can I expect a similar level of performance, and will things like the touchscreen work plug and play?

I want to get a SOPINE as a server anyway, it would just be nice if it could also be used to test out mobile Linux operating systems. I also don’t really want to get a device that requires a bettery to boot, which I’m assuming the pinephone does.

Modem and WiFi and flash light are connected to the battery directly (almost) so these will not work without the battery inserted.

That’s still a problem for me, because I don’t have any free network ports at the router, and even if I did, I would need a dongle, which I’m not sure will be able to pass through enough power to the charge port (I don’t even see a lot of Ethernet dongles with power passthrough)

But on the other hand: battery = build-in UPS ;)

Eh, I don’t really need a UPS since I won’t be serving anything mission critical. Instead, a battery would not be a good idea in my plan of “mostly a server, occasionally a testbed for Linux mobile”, because it would fail very quickly due to being charged constantly, and might even puff up and become dangerous.

I also don’t need a modem since it won’t be used as an actual phone, so I’d rather not have one in there.

Lastly, and this is largely superficial, I really like the idea of interchangeable compute modules, so I kind of just want a SOPINE to play around with.
