Twitter obviously has always had huge downsides, but if you heavily curated your feed, it was sometimes ok. There were socialist/communist circles that had decent discourse.
Recently (last few months), I’ve noticed almost EVERY thread is infested with combative libs.
I also see literal pro-Nazi/fascist threads. I’m talking about praising Hitler and calling for ethnic cleansing. They never seem to get taken down and are very active (often with little resistance).
These threads are not something I’ve dug for either. They are easy to stumble upon.
This is almost exactly what happened to Reddit, which is pretty much worthless now. I haven’t logged on in weeks.
I need to research more, but I know most social media companies have been infiltrated by ‘former’ US security stooges from the CIA etc.
I know anything remotely left wing gets suppressed by the algorithms, but I’m pretty convinced they are pushing hard right content.
Of course, silly Orientals and their clearly inferior social media takes!
It’s just that social media is bad, there isn’t an east or west to it, so saying “western social media” is bad creates the false implication that there’s a better, non-western one.
When the discussion is about the state of social media in one sphere, its a bit odd to immediately try and shift focus to another, that’s all.
I just think it’s strange the poster introduced the concept of a sphere in the first place when it’s all the same
I specify western because that is all I have experience with. Yes, there are different social media platforms in other areas of the world. I don’t know enough about them to have an opinion.
So is it just assumed that the East is otherised?
Well, there is chinese social media. I am pretty sure it has 0 amerikkkans, 0 cia, and 0 nsa. Clearly superior.
That’s only if you assume that China, unlike the USA, has no right-wingers and no intelligence services of its own
But I specifically hate the flag-waving amerikkkans because they are smug and think they are better than others and constantly shove themselves into people’s faces.
Yes such is the way of nationalism
But I am not nationalist. I hate my country. It is being governed by an unelected person and there has been zero progress in my whole lifetime.
