Bezos’ group blog The Washington Post somehow managed to have three people (Martin Weil, Susan Svrluga, and Jennifer Jenkins) write five paragraphs about this without mentioning anything about his motivations.
If you’ll notice the date on that article, it was the day of. They simply didn’t know anything about his motivations at that point. I doubt the police knew much apart from any ID that he had on him.
I noticed by the time I first read the article that it had already been updated the next day with this drivel:
By Saturday it was full of life: fountains splashed, the American flag whipped in the breeze, people snapped photos and posed alongside the marble pillars, a family shared lunch on the steps.
