2·1 year agoI live offgrid in a campervan and do not have HVAC in the normal sense. I follow mild weather, aiming for daily highs of 65-70deg F. Because I camp in arid regions this usually means overnight lows of 35-45F. I try to avoid overnight freezes for comfort and to protect my water system.
My roof vent is set to 65F (comes on then and tries to hold that temp). The LiFePO4 battery bank is warmed to 50F. At night I use an electric blanket and dogbuddy to stay warm if needed.
I wore a pentagram for years. Not because I was pagan/wiccan whatever (I wasn’t) but rather to make all the cross-wearers realize non-xtians exist.
I heard an NPR segment that said that atheists were the most despised minority. Certainly seems that way.
I’ve never heard of setting up a search keyword like that; looks kind of like a Unix alias. How do you do that?
Depends on the browser. In FF it’s part of a bookmark. In Chrom* it;s under search engines. more info
I am used to google searching “[THING] site:reddit.com”
Might pick a few good representative instances on lemmy, mastodon, etc, then make a compound search:
site:lemmy.ml OR site:mastodon.social [thing]then set up a search keyword like
fsfor it so you could typefs [thing]
Not lost, the interface loaded a comment I had written elsewhere into this thread, which I didn’t even have open and wasn’t reading. When I reloaded the page to try to stop the post it showed the original thread I intended to post to. I had to manually open this thread to see where it posted.
I composed that comment in another thread, tabbed away, and when I tabbed back the pending comment was pasted into this thread that I wasn’t even reading. Hit POST before I noticed it. 2nd time that’s happened this morning.

Tangentially-related, perhaps: I’m a member of a subreddit that went from ~20,000 to over 2 million while I’ve been there. The increased quantity was fine, but the quality of postings cratered.
It had been a forum for people who did a particular thing, then suddenly 95% of the posters were dreamers/tirekickers who saw influencer YT/Insta content and came in to ask the same spoonfeedy questions over and over. Five minutes reading the sub would answer the FAQs, but no.
In order to keep my blood pressure under control I focus on specific technical areas and reply only to those that seem to be able/willing to understand.
2·1 year agoI suspect people would pay $20/year for YT with no ads and better functionality (specifically the ability to mute/block particular channels and commenters).
No doodles, but when I had physical books I would I highlight and make comments in the margins.
In ebooks I use the highlight/addnote functionality.
This will surely lose him fans in the “Jesus and John Wayne” fandom

The NSA is keen on collecting data (“nothing is beyond our reach”). Protecting that data might be an afterthought.

If you are or were a student in Australia, Mexico, southern USA, Spain, Portugal, Greece, South Africa, or any other hot parts of the world, how do/did you stay cool during the day?
I live offgrid in a campervan in the desert US. I maintain temps by snowbirding (changing elevation and latitude to follow mild wx).
I have shadecloth and an evaporative cooler when things get a little intense. Temp-controlled roof vent.
I’ve been poking around but haven’t found anything. Giving serious thought to starting a community (lemmy) or magazine (kbin) but haven’t picked a side yet as a post-reddit home. I’d like to include carfolk since there are many shared challenges.
Outstanding rig. There were no stepvans available around me at the time I was buying because of a Perfect Storm:
I still covet those straight walls and all that roof real estate for panel. I drive very little and even then at ~55mph so I think I would have been quite happy in one.
Hopefully it will emerge victorious and not require you to sell off any children to pay the bill. :-)
