So if I understand you correctly your main issue isn’t with the article itself but with how companies enable dangerous user behavior without informing users of the risks associated with that behavior. I do agree with that, I would hope that with enough pressure companies could be encouraged to design their systems in such a way as to encourage safe behavior.
I actually disagree I felt the article the article subtly points out many ways in which a user can use their awareness and common sense to improve security. What do you feel could have been improved.
My preference would be to go entirely optional on JS like how Hacker News does it. A site aimed at a privacy focused crowd would benefit from the option.
Mobile has dedicated app which make this issue mostly moot.
This is interesting but something about it feels kind of disagreeable and I can’t put my finger on why.
In my experience the the sentiment tends to flow in the other direction. There are often smug individuals who come to one of reddit’s smaller competitors and proclaim their personal superiority for that choice. Most the problems that reddit has come from its sheer size and lemmy will likely have its own set of problems if it ever reaches that size.
I really like this one even if it does come with the implication that we are marching to our doom.

I agree. F-Droid is nice for this but it would be nice if a less restrictive app store existed.
I still think a theme precisely imitating the old reddit design would go a long way in helping new users navigate the site. I am still bothered by the fact that lemmy’s interface looks and acts like new reddit. I know its more “modern” but I feel like reddits modern users are exactly the opposite of who we want to target if were aiming to keep quality high on the site though I suspect as the flagship instance keep quality high will be difficult no matter what.
