I have quite an offensive sense of humor, and I’m a bit concerned I can’t tell the difference between a shitty edgy joke and outright bigoted ones.

Most of the time there isn’t really a difference. “It’s only a joke” or “I just have offensive humor” is just a shitty excuse for bigots to spew bigot shit

Look at who or what the joke’s making of. If it isn’t very easy to tell, then it’s probably edgelord material.

I think this helps. I remember laughing at a meme where peter goes full on CoD Lobby. My guess is it’s making fun of the fact gamers are more sensitive than all of Twitter.

If it’s the jokes is that minorities are bad then it’s just bigoted shit

If you can reasonably state that “this person probably thinks the exact opposite of what they are saying in the joke” then it’s good to go. Otherwise it isn’t.

  • I also have dark comedy(can be seen from type of stuff I watch if you know me personally). For example: 9/11, pits, blowing up/trolling nazis, yankees etc is normal to use, but of course not racist shit.

  • Unless you know the person personally it’s not easy to tell. I don’t mind edgy humor but that’s something you reserve for people who know you well enough to know it’s a joke and find it funny.

It’s tough because such content definitely is a greyscale between funny and fascist. I follow several people on Tumblr who oscillates between posting some of the funniest shit and then “oh nah bro that’s just kind if fascist,” and I can tell they don’t even really differentiate between the two. Made further complicated by them being gay and from the Global South so it’s hard to ascribe all the same Western politically correct culture on people who don’t have access to clean water, or to think a gay person can’t use the F word
