How the heck do I avoid Cloudflare when selecting a web host, please? I was considering getting a DigitalOcean “droplet” and running something in that, but I’m pretty sure they’ll be inside Cloudflare’s evil embrace.

Cloudflare is something you need to configure manually for your website. I dont think there is any vps provider that configures it automatically.

      The privacy issues?

The fact that they defend hate speech? Terrorism?

That when they have an outage so does a good proportion of the www?

So you would have a CDN dictate your morality? There’s gonna be hate speech and terrorism as long as there are humans on this planet. Just because they don’t base who they sell their services to based on their clients ideology doesn’t mean they are evil. Opportunists? Maybe. But I wouldn’t classify them as evil based on that. You wouldn’t want them denying you service because you happen to subscribe some philosophy they disagree with.

As for the outage aspect, that’s also not evil. Yes it sucks but thats why you don’t host your whole infrastructure behind a single CDN.

If you think they are just a CDN then you need to do some reading.

Op is looking for hosting so I figured that was what he was trying to avoid using cloudflare for.
