For one, prayers and temple rituals ARE magic too. Second, Christianity is full into blood obsession, and there’s even passages about the blood of the saints/martyrs, so it’s only to be expected for this to happen in some form or another, like Jehovah’s Witnesses’s children dying because not accepting transfusions.
