This is the mainframe model but for microcomputers. Mainframes are built with hundreds of processors. But they are disabled by default. You pay IBM to enable them.

Mainframes are on their way out despite still clinging on in some applications like financial transactions. So naturally they want to diversify their corporate bullshit to the broader computing ecosystem.

Also, Xeons are still data center and enterprise chips. So not too different spiritually from a mainframe. Companies have way more disposable income to spend on bullshit premiums so they know they’re more likely to just accept it.

not yet. We shouldn’t deceive ourselves. But if you look at what China has done in the past 20 years, I’d say it’s very much something that could happen in the next 5 or 10 years.

“Better at tech” has many angles. From absolute “how well do their tech perform on benchmarks and real world applications”, no, not yet, but soon. But that phrase could also refer to the ability to research and develop technology. Looking at the speeds that China is catching up to the US and surpassing other Western countries like the UK even after the MASSIVE head start the West got and all their attempts at taking unfair advantages, I’d say absolutely China is better if that was your metric.
