It’s true that running is a high impact activity and can lead to injuries in the long term, especially if you have improper technique or bad knees - and sometimes you don’t know you had bad knees until you start running. Tbh I support safety implements in sports, even if they look silly. My problem with this one is the price, and the overall question: does it work? There is no data yet, and right after safety I also need to know if this allows me to work out properly if I go running.
Concept2 rowers are slightly less expensive (around 1.2k new) and rowing is an activity that works more of your muscles in a low impact environment. But of course people are free to choose their sport and may not like being stationary on a rower, for example.
Parents use something like this for toddlers to help them learn how to walk
GlideCycle is currently priced at $1,729. You can visit the official website to place your order or learn more about the product.
Why not just ride a regular bike lol? Or does that stress different muscles?
not bougee enough i guess.
A lot of the ‘silly/useless’ looking products, like the ‘as-seen-on-TV’ stuff, are for people with disabilities. But disabled folks don’t have the numbers to make it profitable selling only to them. So they sell to the general public to try and make profit. People with certain injuries or disabilities may not be able to ride a regular bike or go running, but could potentially use this. Unfortunately the profit motive also sets a price that locks out a lot of the disabled folks that couldn’t afford something like this, even if it would help them.
I could see something like this being subsidised by a health provider like Australia’s national disability insurance scheme
