Long thought impossible, O-Boot has proved that vacuum levitation is possible using complex carbon structures. This allows for something like a dirigible based not on lighter-than-air gas, but rather via creating a true vacuum. They plan to build an airship for eco-friendly transportation, and are committed not to allow access by militaries.

This project seems to have flown under the radar, with a crowdfunding campaign apparently failing some time ago. I would love to see the project come to fruition. My mind is wild with the possibilities of vacuum levitation. The size of the object required appears to be very small in comparison with gas-based dirigibles.

      What do you think would be impractical about it? It would theoretically require much smaller machines, and wouldn’t require any expendable gasses. Even without propulsion, having a relatively dense, neutrally buoyant, solid object would be revolutionary.

          hmm, thanks for the analysis, that makes sense. But aren’t helium and hydrogen very expensive? This would be cheaper I assume. Well, I hope you’re wrong. I want to believe they’ve created a way to make a more practical dirigible. I would love the future of transport to be safe zeppelins.

                  Sad if so. Governments should fund research on this stuff. It seems so much more environmentally sound, and practical and cheap.
