      Ya, “poverty porn”, trying to turn these hellish stories about our incredibly dysfunctional late stage capitalist system as tales of personal perseverance and exceptionalism.

      Yup. Unless articles about these tales use them to show how utterly broken the system is (which many do, mostly left leaning news outlets), I don’t want to read them.

      It’s subtitled “Act of Kindness”. While it is that for sure, I cannot image the ghoulishness of the people who write shit like this. This incident is a tragedy and should be portrayed as such.

      • If you go on subreddits like r/upliftingnews it’s largely about these types of stories.

        It boggles the mind of anyone who lives in a country where there is welfare. There’s nothing inspiring or uplifting about someone spending their life savings to make life a bit less miserable for a while.
