In a recent study under review at the Nature Portfolio journal and currently posted to the Research Square* preprint server, researchers at Washington University School of Medicine and VA Saint Louis Health Care System showed that acute severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) reinfection adds to the risks of all-cause mortality and hospitalization accrued during the first SARS-CoV-2 infection.
That’s what makes it so dangerous, it’s easy to get complacent if you catch it once or twice and nothing bad happens. It’s going to be interesting to see what things look like next year. Turns out around 4 million people in US are already suffering from long covid to the point where they’re unable to work. If things keep going the way they are then we could see a significant percentage of the population become disabled going forward.
its insane how much funding the US puts into “national security” and basically ignores climate change and the pandemic that is both killing and disabling its population. Feels like the world is run by a NeoLiberal death cult
