It’s really easy these days to spin up something that “looks like Google” or “has a Slack feel” or gives the general vibe of SF VC funding. What are your favorite web dev resources that represent the opposite of that–that feel like a niche hobbyist or fan came up with them?

      isn’t it good??? I was thinking about this in the context of Lemmy themes, tbh–I hadn’t known that any Bootstrap 4 theme might work. I went to look at different themes available and it was all pretty homogeneous Product Hunt sans serif whitespace blah.

      neocities has a ton of weird aesthetics that constitute goals for me.

      clicking around this neocities site is a trip, a lot of retro tech nostalgia going on.

      this is actually the web design era for which I personally am most nostalgic and I would love to play around a bit with figuring out how to bring it to bootstrap.

          the fact that it’s willing to take risks to the point of coming off as hideous is what makes it cool to me… but I’ll admit I’m just probably overly jaded from having seen way too many getblahapp.ios out there in the world lol
