    Can someone explain to me why so many leftists look up to this guy? I get someone can change their views over time, but he’s all over the place ideologically.

      He is a common early step in the pipeline, so to speak. It much easier to come across his speeches debates etc. online than more radical philosophers. Him debating Jordan Peterson for example really helped platform him.

        He has a ton of additional awful takes here, but beyond that, we should be very skeptical of people like Zizek and Fisher who’ve made their careers on doing cultural criticism ( art, movies, lit ), as opposed to materialist analyses of production and imperialism.

        That kind of criticism is typical of champagne socialists, far removed from people’s real life / every day concerns. Which is why Zizek appeals more to college students and the “intellectual” western left than does Lenin, Huey, Mao, Fanon, etc.
