ironic that the Milwaukee Railroad was electrified between 1914 and 1920 over 1000 km https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milwaukee_Road … and then it ended 1974… seems they did not like the efficiency and 1 Million $ savings each year and got bankrupted by neglecting maintenance in favor of short term profit, before going bankrupt. Then abandoned the rail line in favor of a “green” hiking trail and diesel Locks/Trucks on parallel lines/highways.
