Chinese users of Shanghai-based Xiaohongshu, known as Rednote, welcome American arrivals to the platform.

While the exact number of downloads is unknown, the Apple store put Xiaohongshu – which does not have an official English name but means “little red book” – as the No 1 free-to-use social media platform across all free iPhone apps in the US.

The exodus of “TikTok refugees” has been spurred by mounting concerns over the app’s fate in the wake of last week’s Supreme Court oral arguments, in which the justices seemed to lean towards national security over free speech.

US influencer Nuha – who has more than 1.5 million followers on TikTok and about 135,000 on Instagram – is among those signing up for Xiaohongshu’s blend of e-commerce and user-generated content.

So far the interactions between the Chinese users and influx of Americans is super cute, Americans are trying to learn a bit of Mandarin and Chinese users are asking for help with English homework and saying that they are the Chinese spies, lol

It’s also interesting because a ton of accounts are getting banned after their first post because they aren’t aware of all the rules/censorship. Although to be fair, the entire app was 100% mandarin until a couple days ago.

      A few rules/guidelines I found/was able to translate:

-No posting another’s content without written permission

-No flashing of wealth or use of beauty filters that significantly alter your appearance

-No medical or dietary advice allowed

There’s a lotta wholesome content about food and fishing and everyone seems very nice. I’m hoping the US doesn’t fuck it up.

Its so wild to me that its practically illegal to be trans in like 1/3rd the US and we see US social media with histories of passing data to cops starting to track womens cycles in anti abortion states and after all that people still think China having your data is wors than known election interferer Zucc having it.

Just Red Scare shenanigans. They think the CPC will send sleeper agents to their house for watching random cat clips

The big bad Chinese government is using their malicious Spyware apps to steal and weaponize my recipe for vegan meringues.

This is the end of Western civilization as we know it.

With the American one the US government has a possibility of recourse against you, and it’s a hell of a lot more than a slight possibility.

I gotta say, I’m not too concerned about the CCP getting their hands on my latke recipe or knowing what bass I catch.

The NSA gets their mits on all this sent over US telecoms and servers anyway, and there’s no legal recourse for that.

Oh hi, you’re awake from your coma. A lot has happened in the last 40 years. Culottes came back, but are already out of fashion again. There’s more, but I’m not sure where to start.

It’s really fun right now but I doubt it’ll last unless they do a major overhaul to help non-Chinese speakers use it.

The most interesting thing for me was seeing stuff on DPRK through I think university students over there from brief look around their website. Their food section (美食) is super legit amazing.
