It’s not spent on groceries, it’s wasted on groceries. Delusional.
and vacations
that’s an odd way of spelling rent
I mean, groceries are short-term purchases by definition, aren’t they? Same with vacations. It’s like the reply is insinuating that the original post is claiming these are luxuries when it feels more like it’s pointing out how difficult it is to save.
It’s the fact that they mention both groceries, a thing you need and cannot easily do without, and vacations, a thing of pure luxury that you can easily do without. It sounds like they either think vacations are a basic survival need or that groceries really aren’t that vital.
I would argue that vacations are necessary for mental health in an increasingly hellish world. Vacations don’t need to mean taking an airplane to a tropical island - it can be a $30/night camping trip.
While, yes, vacations are critical for sanity, the disconnect here comes from the yawning gap on where these things lie on the heirarchy of needs.
Skill issue. I would simply refrain from buying avocado toast and taking my kids to Walley World, and instead invest in index funds and cryptocurrencies.
