The worst menial task I deal with is: Dishes hygiene; I feel like I’m putting in too much effort into washing dishes, and it makes me struggle with doing the task at all.

  • I wash a dish repeatedly because I feel like it.
  • I try to wash all stains and food off dishes.

EDIT: I also dislike inefficiency, so this would be a good opportunity to improve my methods.

I find I like to listen to podcasts when doing menial tasks around the house. If I find something interesting to listen to then I just focus on that and do the chores mechanically without thinking about it.

I try to remove the blockers. In your case an example would be getting a countertop dishwasher?

Got one myself for my small apartment and man do I ever love it. I don’t really have to scrub my dishes anymore. When I’m done with them I either rinse and put it right in or leave it soaking in the sink for a bit and before the night is over I’ll just use a sponge to quickly get rid of the grime (no soap) then into the dishwasher. I run it just past 11 so power is way cheaper and on eco mode since there’s not really any stuck on food it’s just for sanitation purposes mostly.

I basically never have to deal with mountains of dishes anymore and just my large pots and pans needs to be done by hand.

For the second point, do you soak your dishes? That helps get rid of most food and stains or at least makes it extremely easy to scrape off. If you put dishes under/in water immediately you can save effort from scraping off dried food too

    Quick pre-rinse before things crust.

Pre-rinse also helps stop excess oils consuming all the detergent in the wash.

Find a good detergent and use the chemistry: spray/lightly-scrub dishes with diluted detergent and let sit for 5-10 mins before properly washing.

    Use warm/hot water.

For tasks that allow it (doing dishes is one of them) I’ll have an audiobook that I’m only allowed to listen to if I’m doing the chore I need to do. It makes it go faster since I’m not focusing on how I wish I wasn’t doing it, and I’m motivated to start so I can listen to my stories.
